by Karl DonvilIf you knew it allready or not, the Belgian Shepherd is in fact only one breed coming into 4 varieties. The most famous one is the Malinois (rough coated). this one is kept mainly for sports. He is excellent in many disciplines and loves to work, but he is not the most glamourous one and not so popular on shows. The wirehaired is the Laekenois, a rather rare breed even in its country of origin. More popular, also on shows, are the Groenendael (black long hair) and the Tervueren (brown long hair with black overlay and black muzzle).
To celebrate its centenary the Royal Belgian Shepherd Club had the honour to organize the World Championship. The event was held in the vast Sports Stadion of De Haan nearby the sea. It was a big event to organise, with several hundreds of dogs in disciplines like, Agility, IPO, Mondioring, Obedience FCI and of course the Show. Besides that there was a seminary for the judges, demonstrations and galadiners. A splendid website was built for this event (see on http://www.kucbh-urcbb.be).
Besides this the weather was excellent as almost everything happened in open air.
No less then 22 countries were there to compete in the several disciplines and 16 judges were invited to judge all this.
Special souvenirs for this event were for sale or given away.
