One-day-shows are very rare in Belgium, we only have Gent every two years, a CACIB, and then there is Lommel, a CAC show, partly in open air and usually in good weather.
Except for this year. In the morning clouds were coming up and at the start of the show the first raindrops fell.
It continued until around 2 o’clock in the afternoon when it finally stopped raining. Notwithstanding the tents to provide shelter, it did affect the fun. Everybody who knows the show of Lommel (previously the show happened in Mol) knows that it is good weather and this year many were disappointed . But who can help it? There are tents and there is the big sports arena. One judge moved inside into the dressing rooms, I think he had longhaired companion dogs to judge and that is of course a problem on wet grass. But along with the sunshine the good mood came back and it didn’t affect the show very much. The arena is huge and the floor is exceptionally good for dogs as it is antislip rubber. The light inside is pretty good and there is plenty of parking around the halls. And if you want to stay a little longer, the area is very nice for walking, camping or a picnic.
Compared to last year there were many dogs, 1095 to be exact. That is a hundred more compare to last year. I still remember when they had between 600 and 800 when the show was held on the ice-skating track in Mol. It must also be said that this result is absolutely good keeping in mind that the very same weekend there was the famous Paris Villepinte show and in Holland there was a show in Berghem, which is hardly 60 km away from Lommel. Both show are CACIB’s, while Lommel is only a CAC show.
Organizing a one-day show means inviting more judges and the risks are slightly bigger in case a judge seems not so popular, as he cannot compensate the second day. But there was no problem here. 24 Were invited, 13 Belgians, 3 from Switzerland, 3 from Germany, 2 from Luxemburg, and one from Holland, Ireland and Russia. This is a good balance for a CAC (national) show. All judges were pretty busy. Mrs. T.Deres-Tyagunova from Russia had 100 dogs to judge, all the Terriers with the exception of the Yorkies. Mr.F.Dickmann from Germany was successful thanks to the 50 French Bulldogs. In total he had 81 dogs. Mr.J.Vanaken, a Belgian judge, was invited for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and the Chihuahua’s, good for 83 dogs of which 62 were Chihuahua’s. Mrs.M.Heine had dogs from group 5 and group 9 and ended up with 80 dogs in her ring. Mrs.Chr.Bröcker was invited to judge as many shepherd and group two breeds as possible. She had a very nice score with 86.
The final result was a little surprising in the positive sense. A Standard wirehaired dachshund was chosen BIS by Mr.August Dewilde. It was “Gold Digger”, a hardly two year old male, bred and owned my Mr.Vermeiren. He was judged by Mr. Heinesche who also judged the group.
This show had a very good entry , as good and even better as some CACIB shows. Although it usually never rains during this show, it happened this time. But de sun was not far away and will be on term again next year. Enter your dogs here, arrive one Saturday and have a relaxing walk. On Sunday there is the show and if you win a title, your must have had a fantastic relaxing show. Can you make a better combination as here on this show?
