by Karl Donvil2nd AMBIORIX Trophy Genk 2006 proves very International
Why not rent the very same hall as another club and work together, share experience. That is what the young club Haspengauwse Kynologen Vereniging did. The first edition last year was held in Sint Truiden, but the halls were not convenient. That is why they moved to Genk. Several of the committee members of this club are also in the committee of LKV the club that uses to have its famous show in the same halls. This time only the big hall was used as large enough to have this number of dogs in two days. The weather was very warm for the time of the year, but inside it was very comfortable for dog and handler.
Although it is only the second edition and only allowed to give CAC's, the club proved successful with a nice entry of 1056 entries coming from 10 different countries. Germany had 66, the UK even 12, France 33, Switzerland 9, Luxembourg 7 and Poland 2 entries. Best foreign country were the Netherlands with 252 entries, but there was even an entry from Sweden and one from Iceland!
13 Judges were invited, 3 from Poland, one from the UK, 3 from Hungary, and one from Holland, one from Austria and one from Germany. The rest were Belgian judges.
On Saturday Mr. Dewilde from Belgium had the top score with 85 dogs from group 2 and 5. Mrs.Fram Grimsdell came all over from the UK to judge only the English Setter, she had 17.
Sunday was more busy for several judges. Mr.Krol Piotr from Poland had 79 entries. He judged all the poodles and several breeds from different groups. That was the very same for Mr. Korozs Gabor from Hungary who had 68 in total, 20 of them were Parson Russells and 18 Westies. Mr. Andras Korozs, his compatriot, had 76. Mr.A.Dewilde had 84 dogs on Sunday and was the most popular judge of the show. 25 Of them were Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and 22 Chihuahuas. Mr.Feyaerst from Belgium was invited to judge the Retriever and Waterdog group and had 65 in total, 28 of them being Labradors. Usually the Golden Retrievers are more numerous but this time they didn't. Mr.Doedijns from the Netherlands was the most succesfull judge on Sunday with 98 dogs. Especially the the American Staffordshire Terrier owners were interested in his judgement. All together no less then 45 specimen showed up and thus ending up as the most successful breed of the show.
As CAC show is a good test case for young dogs in order to get familiar with the rush of a show and being judged. The statistics in the catalogue prove this as 486 dogs belonged to the Baby, Puppy, Junior and Intermediate Class. Belgium has much more CACIB shows and only a few CAC shows, perhaps this can explain why this show is so relatively successful. The date of the 2008 edition is already announced in the catalogue as well as the list of invited judges. Keep 26 &27 April reserved!
