door Karl DonvilGenk celebrates its 30th edition together with 1512 dogs.
Genk has always been a popular place for dog lovers. The show was before in Hasselt but the halls there were very expensive compared to the ones of Genk . The moving to Genk has been an excellent choice as offering more financial possibilities to the committee. This year it was the 30th edition of the Grand Prix of Limburg and there was a Special Terriers during the show, after the regular judging.
Of the 1512 dogs, 842 were from Belgium and the remaining 665 dogs were coming from 15 other countries, 176 from Germany, 152 from France, 280 from the Netherlands and amongst the rest we find 8 from the United Kingdom, 2 Russians, one from Spain, 13 from Scandinavian countries and even one from the USA. This is a very good score as the World Dog Show of Denmark was hardly 14 days before. There were 18 judges to bring all this to a good end, 11 from Belgium, two from Hungary, one from Lithuania, one from Croatia, and also one from Ireland, Poland and Luxemburg . The catalog was well compiled with all the necessary information one can need. Only a map of the rings would be helpful for visitors but that is not so important for a show of this size.
This show is really getting famous for its music. The president of the club is a music fanatic and playing with his disco-bar is his big hobby. At the end of the show there was even a special request to play a few dancing songs. All the judges who have been judging on this show (or at the Ambiorix Trophy) know and appreciate it very much as does the public.
Best scoring judge was our all-rounder Mr.August Dewilde who had 159 to judge during the weekend. Mrs.Monique Van Brempt (B) came close with 154. She had 25 Border Collies on Saturday and 27 Bulldogs on Sunday. Mr.Theo Leenen (B) had 68 dog son Saturday, 27 of them Siberian Huskies. Mr.Jean Pierre Achtergael (B) had another popular breed, the Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and could find 29 of them in his ring. Mr.J.De Cuyper (B) had popular breeds on both days, on Saturday 35 Goldens and 25 Labradors and on Sunday 42 American Staffordshire Terriers, which brought him to a total score of 106 dogs on both days, a few other breeds included. Mrs Seamus Oates from Ireland has been a regular guest lately on Belgian Shows and he is very appreciated. On Saturday he had a nice entry of 27 Afgan Hounds. Mr.Vanaken (B) judged on Sunday only and had 44 poodles (all varieties) and a few other breeds . Mr.Laurent Heinesche from Luxemburg had the highest day score with 113 dogs. He also judged on Sunday only. 22 Chinese Crested, 34 French Bulldogs, 24 Shih Tsu’s helped him to get this record score. The Chihuahua’s had the highest breed entry. The 43 specimen were for Mrs. Liliane Deridder (B) . Mrs.Rita Reyniers (B) had a remarkably good score in Border Terriers on Sunday. Mr.P.D’Hooghe (B) had only two breeds and judged on Sunday only but with his 16 Leonbergers and 33 Newfoundlanders he can be very satisfied. Mr.Andras Korozs from Hungary was pretty busy on Sunday as he had to judge not only the 50 Dachshund (all varieties) but also the 20 Scottish Terriërs.
Mrs.Monique Van Brempt was asked to judge Best In Show. Her 3rd dog for the podium was the Afgan Hound CLASSIC EXSAMPLE A TOUCH OF FREEDOM, bred and owned by MUHLEMEYER Michaela from Germany. This two year old blond bitch was entered in Open Class under Mr.Seymus Oates from Ireland who made her Best of Breed from 27 and picked out as group winner by Mrs.Rita Reyniers who was a Afgan Hound breeder before she started to judge. The male Australian Shepherd TRY ME BABY DE CARPATHIA, 3 years old and also entered in Open Class won the breed under judge Mrs.Papp Judit from Hungaria, also a breeder of Australian Shepherds. The group was judged by Mrs.Petkevica from Latvia who gave him his ticket to compete in the finals. The Weimaraner shorthair NOBISKRUG PLAYING ALLEGRO from Edwin and Kristina Lenaerts is one of the favorites of Mrs. Van Brempt. Nobiskrug won Best In Show last September in Luxemburg. Mrs. Theo Leenen, who is also a big fan of this dog, judged him in the working class and made him Best of Breed so that he could judge him again and compare him with the other winners of Group 7 as group judge. Nobiskrug is 5 years old now.
This Show had only 1255 dogs last year due to circumstances but is on its way again to the break the record of 2008 when it had over 2000 entries. Yes, you can help if you write it now down into your agenda 25 and 26 of June 2011. Be there and don’t miss this very nice show with sweet music and friendly people.
