An unbelievable number of entries was the most remarkable fact, while last year was already such a success, this year the growth of the number of entries was just phenomenal, from 4769 last year to 5253 of an increase of over 10%. In order to get all this done in two days a big team of judges is required and because of the proven success, they must have a good reputation. 45 were invited from 17 different countries to judge 256 different breeds. Exhibitors came from no less then 28 different countries. France was best represented with 1474 exhibitors followed by Germany with 1112. Belgium surpassed the Netherlands with respectively 904 to 671. Luxembourg itself had 200 dogs entered, Italy had 186, and Switzerland 140. Russians seems to like Luxembourg as the delegated no less then 114 dogs to compete. Ireland had 7 entries and 26 came from the UK, 3 dogs were entered from the United States. Scandinavia was also well represented, Norway had 90 entries; Finland 6, Norway 5 and Sweden no less the 19. The former East Block countries had a total number of dogs of 192, the Czech Republic was leading with 70 dogs, Poland had 57.

On Saturday groups 2-3-4-7 and 10 were on term. Best overall scoring judge was Mr.H.Bierwolf from Austria with no less then 132 American Staffordshire Terriers, also the second best scoring Breed from that day and of the show. Mr.Antonio José do Amaral from Portugal had 120 specimen in his ring, 82 of them being Zwergschnauzers. Best overall scoring breed was the Newfoundlander, with 134. Mr.H.Kroos from Germany judged the females, his wife Mrs.I.Kroos did the males. Mr.S.Stefik, president of the Slovakian Kennel Club, had a 80 dogs to judge, 34 of them being Dogo Argentinos. Mr. P. Sliwka from Poland had also a total entry of 80 dogs, 46 of them were Russian Terriers. Mr.G.Mansencale from France was invited to judge BIS. On Saturday he had 95 dogs to judge, 57 of them were Bulldogs. The same score was for Mrs.C.Broecker from Luxembourg, she had 40 Shar Pei. Mr.N.Deschuymere from Belgium is a popular judge of group 9, but also of the Terriers. This was proved as he had a good score of 82. The 60 Staffordshire Bull Terriers were judged by Mr.F.Cochetti from Italy, and the 57 English Bull Terriers by Mrs.D.Witkowska from Poland. Mrs.I.Vojtekova from Slovakia had no less then 104 dogs from the sighthound group to judge and had a nice total number of 54 Afgan Hounds.

The Dachshunds were well represented with no less then 189 specimen and divided under 3 different judges. The charming Mrs.T. Backes-Gassner from Germany, probably the youngest judge present, had 78 Miniatures.

On Sunday, a little more dogs were present compared to Saturday. Mrs.J.Gregory was invited to judge but the Border Collies. She ended up with 67. Her Hungarian colleague Mr.T.Gellen had the smooth and rough Collies for his part, 19 and 51 respectively, and had 84 dogs in total. Mr.J.Walsh jr from Ireland did the Australian Shepherds and ended up with no less then 68 of the 81 dogs he had to judge. His compatriot Mr.S.Oates had also a good total entry of 80 dogs. I was surprised to see that 31 White Swiss Shepherds turned up to be judged by Mr P.Sliwka from Poland who had 74 dogs in total. Group 5 was divided under 3 judges, who all scored very high, Mr.T.Althaus from Switzerland had 117 dogs, Mrs.C.Broeker from Luxembourg had 94 and Mr.T.Leenen from Belgium had 108. Second best scoring breed on sunday was the Rhodesian Ridgeback, all judged by Mr.S.Schock from Germany, his only breed. Mrs. Witkowska from Poland had 120 dogs, 43 of them were Basset Hounds. Mrs.M.Blaha from Austria had 101 dogs to judge. Best scoring breed on Sunday was of course the Golden Retriever and was divided under Mr.H.Fryckstrand from Sweden who did the 59 males and Mrs.T.Angrell, also from Sweden who did the 70 females. Mr.J.Goubie had a total number of 54 Flat Coated Retrievers, which is very good. Mr.A-J do Amaral from Portugal had the honour to judge the American Cockers and ended up with 70 of them, his total entry that day was 97. Mrs.Vojtekova from Slovakia did well again on Sunday judging the Bichon Maltais and the Chinese Crested. She ended up with 98 dogs to judge, 76 of them were Chinese Cresteds. Mr.E.Deutscher had the round score of 100 dogs of which 58 were Shih Tzus. And also Mr.Deschuymere proved well with 87 dogs in his ring, He had 56 female Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The 42 females were judged by Mrs.M.Spavin from the United Kingdom.

Mr.H.Bierwolf did only the French Bulldogs that day, but could attract 62 in his ring. Another flat faced breed, the Pug, was reserved for Mr.F.Cochetti. He had no less then 77 of them, but judged also one Kromfohrlander and 8 Russkiy Toy, which is pretty unknown over here.Mr.V.Nataletti from Italy had 110 dogs to judge, 55 Standard Poodles and also 55 Papillons. The Medium sized poodles were reserved for Mr. L.Heinesche from Luxemburg and totalled 60. He also judged for the first time the Petit Chien Lion or Lowchen. The Miniature Poodles, 67, were judged by Mr.L.Pichard who had 84 dogs in total. Mr.D.Spruyt from Belgium had 102 dogs , among them 39 Toy Poodles and 54 Chihuahuas.

Amazing numbers, a lot of international quality and out of all of this Mr. Mansencal had to pick the Best in Show. The Labrador “Aston de l'Etang Balancet”, owned by Mrs.Dreyfus Anne-Charlotte, was his 3th place. This dog was chosen Best of Group 8 by Mr.P.Beyersdorf from Germany. He was a well balanced dog overall and with a very nice temperament. The very proudly looking Papillon “Queen Bless JP Sun Shine Legend” from Italy, co-owned by Ejima and Stefano Paolantoni Chie, was his runner up for BIS. This dog was made winner of group 9 by Mr.Francesco Cochetti from Italy. Mr.W.Jungblut from Germany had only 13 Cairns in his ring, but he made his Best of Breed later on Best of Group 3 and it proved to be a very good choice as “Senseis Platoon” convinced Mr.Mansencal to make him Best In Show. He is proudly owned by Mr.Lassen Lars from Denmark. No need to take his tail up for the photo shoot later. He never stopped paying attention and interested in everything. It was a real joy to taking lots of photos without reposing him or putting or holding up his tail. That says something about the temperament and character of a dog. I think Mr.Mansencal was looking for the very same when he needed to chose his 3

winners out of all those quality showing group winners. If it comes then to details, he prefers to go for character and well balanced temperament that shows always in a dogs expression.

I don't know if the halls can hold more dogs then this weekend. One option is to have a 3 day show, another option is to rent the other halls too. The last option is the better one as I believe that the show cans till grow and end up as one of the biggest and most international of Europe, although it happens is one of its smallest countries.
